MIT Global, has launched a brand-new collaboration initiative aimed at bringing together leading practitioners in the ever-growing financial sector.
Called the ‘360° Visionary Leaders Alliance’, the initiative was launched on 2nd October, 2017 at an exclusive VIP, invite-only forum held at Dubai’s Conrad Hotel. More than 55 C-level executives from the region’s leading banks and financial institutions gathered for a unique knowledge exchange to discuss some of the most pressing issues on the Islamic finance agenda, as well as laying the foundation for future collaboration and partnerships among attendees.
Dr. Adnan Chilwan, Group CEO of Dubai Islamic Bank, delivered a keynote address on ‘The New Digital World’, while Mr. Muhammed Ikram Thowfeek gave a special address on ‘The Physical World’ and the need to transform the industry into a digital, augmented virtual reality. Mrs Maya Marissa Malek, Managing Director of Amanie Advisors LLC, gave a special address on ‘Women leadership in Islamic Finance – a 360° Perspective’.
Following the speeches and interactive discussion sessions, the event also hosted the inaugural 360° Visionary Leader Awards, which recognised the contributions of pre-eminent personalities and institutions working in the Islamic finance field today.
The initiative is the brainchild of MIT Global’s Founder and Managing Director, Mr. Muhammad Ikram Thowfeek. Speaking at the launch, he said: “The idea has been with me for a long time. I wanted to bring people together in an inclusive manner to discuss and deliberate on some of the most important issues that everyone is facing. “After speaking to my colleagues in the industry, I saw that people were aligned on the requirement for a forum in which we could all contribute in a non-competitive manner and so the 360° Visionary Leaders Alliance was created. I am very grateful to everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to be with us today, and look forward to working with all of the attendees in the future to maximise the untapped potential of the sector.”
Dr. Adnan Chilwan, Group CEO of Dubai Islamic Bank, added: “The potential offered by the Islamic finance industry is staggering, but no result of any significance comes by chance. Passion coupled with blood, sweat and tears is non-negotiable, but if the goal is truly worth the effort, then hurdles along the path become immaterial. The combined intellect of gatherings such as these is sure to transform this fast-growing industry into the global norm and I am extremely thankful to the organisers for providing me the opportunity to be a part of it.”
Maya Marissa Malek, Managing Director of Amanie Advisors LLC, said: “I applaud MIT Global for this 360° Visionary Leaders Alliance initiative and for the specific mention of women’s role in the Islamic finance industry. Shariah can work in various eco-systems and requirements, however, there are still many untapped areas and gaps between theory and practice. An awareness system that recognizes diversity will galvanize talent from both genders to drive Islamic finance in fulfilling its potential.”
